Aspen is a ski resort town of the Pitkin County with lots to do year round. Mostly known for skiing, Aspen has many mountains surrounding it with many ski areas. Maroon Bells
The Maroon Bells is a twin peaked mountain that is more than about 14,000 feet. It offers an amazing hiking trail, with beautiful scenery and landscapes. In the summertime this is the perfect place for you to take a hike and take some breathtaking pictures. As mentioned previously there are many trails, and also campsites you can stay at to enjoy the full experience. In the winter time you can also take a snowmobile tour. The Maroon Bells is a very popular spot especially in the summer time, and it’s always advised to get to the mountains and start your hike early because it gets very crowded as the day goes on. Independence Pass
If you’re in Aspen, you definitely want to take a drive through Independence Pass. Independence Pass is one of the highest roads in North America with it being about 12,000 feet above sea level. If you’re driving, make sure you’re focused as there are many tight turns and cliffs. There’s also a scenic hiking trail that you can do in the summertime. Independence Pass has a paved hiking trail where you can sight-see, take amazing photos, and embrace nature. The hiking trail makes for a perfect place to picnic and spend time with loved ones, and friends.
Snowmass
Snowmass. Arguably Aspen’s most popular ski area it boasts over 3,300 acres of ski-able land, and there are about 90 trails, and 20 lifts. Most of the trails are for intermediate level skiers but there are still a good handful for expert and beginners alike. If you’ve never snowboarded before and you want to, Snowmass boasts one of the best snowboarding schools in the US. Whenever you’re done skiing, you can head on down to Snowmass Village and go shopping and grab a bite to eat. Because of Snowmass’s popularity, it’s important that if you go during high season to get there early, because you don’t want to be skiing on a very crowded slope. Lift tickets can be a bit pricey at $160 per adult and it varies from season to season. Snowmass all in all, will give you an unforgettable skiing experience like no other.
Food!
If you love food (who doesn’t) then Aspen has a great selection of restaurants with a variety of cuisines to satisfy any and all of your cravings. From delicious deserts, to delicious dinner menus Aspen has it all. Quite a few of the restaurants are also geared towards providing after ski lunches and dinners, which helps create an even better ambience in Aspen. One great restaurant in Aspen is called The Boat Tow Aspen. The Boat Tow Aspen is one of those restaurants that just happens to be open for lunch and dinner for those who just finished skiing. There are many great dishes along with cocktails if you like to drink. They are relatively new as they opened in December of 2023, and is a great restaurant that pays homage to Aspen’s ski culture. At the Boat Tow Aspen, you can expect to spent around $30-$60 per person, and serve food like, roast chicken, fish tacos, sandwiches, and a wide variety of wines. If you’re looking for more of a Mexican or Latin cuisine you can also head on over to Mi Chola. Mi Chola is a more laid back restaurant that specializes in Mexican cuisine. They too offer cocktails, and have a large menu ranging from burritos, tacos, enchiladas, shrimps, nachos, and other popular food menu items and deserts. Prices are reasonable at Mi Chola, and you can expect to spend $30 – $70 per person depending on your appetite, with the most expensive dishes being $35 ( at the time of writing this article). There are also many more restaurants that also serve traditional American food, along with other fine dining experiences.
